- INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT :-
Prior to 1971, due to illiteracy and lack of any facility of higher education in Sillod Tehsil the students had to go to Aurangabad to obtain higher education. Taking into account this deficiency; Hon’ble Late Manikraoji Palodkar, the Ex-revenue Minister, Govt. of Maharashtra laid the foundation stone of a Society in June 1971 named as ‘Rajarshi Shahu Education Society’. The purpose of establishing the society was to provide education to the economically and educationally backward masses of the rural vicinity of Sillod.
Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Arts and Commerce was established in June 1972 as an unit of ‘Rajarshi Shahu Education Society’ as a pioneer educational institute. The motto of the institution is “Bahujan Hitaay Bahujan Sukhaay”. This is a reputed educational institute in Sillod tehsil as well as in Aurangabad district. The college is affiliated to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University, Aurangabad and it is recognized under 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.
Initially the college had only Arts and commerce faculties. As we were entering in the era of Science and technology, as well as the growing need of the youths from the area, the institute has taken a noble step to start science faculty in the June 1993. The science wing was started with five basic subjects, Physics is one of them.
Initially the department of Physics was run purely on non-grant basis from 1993 to 1999. The junior College teachers have extended their valuable co-operation in running and flourishing the department previously. Later, Mr. A.A. Pandit in November 1994 and Mr. M.S. Patil in October 1995 have joined as full time lecturer. With their dedication and consistent efforts they successfully developed the department in all respects. The strength of the students is consistently rising due to the well-equipped laboratory facilities and dedicated teachers.
